What is Eczema?
Eczema, or Atopic Dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that causes inflammation, irritation, and intense itching. It can affect people of all ages, often starting in childhood and continuing into adulthood.
Common Symptoms
Persistent Itching – Ranges from mild to severe, often worse at night; scratching can worsen the skin condition.
Dry, Sensitive Skin – Rough, tight, or flaky skin due to a weakened skin barrier.
Red or Inflamed Patches – May spread over time; appears red on light skin and brown/purple/gray on darker skin.
Thickened or Scaly Skin – Repeated scratching can cause lichenification, making skin look leathery or cracked.
Small Bumps or Blisters – Can leak fluid and crust over; may become infected if scratched.
Skin Discoloration – Post-inflammation, areas may be lighter or darker than surrounding skin, especially on darker skin tones.
