Minutes felt like hours as I lay there, listening, waiting. The conversation continued above me, but I couldn\u2019t piece together the full story. My mind was a jumble of fear and confusion, caught between the need to protect my daughter and the fear of uncovering a harsh truth.<\/p>\n

After what felt like an eternity, the group began to disperse. I heard the soft click of the window being opened, the gentle thud of feet hitting the ground outside. They were leaving. Lily\u2019s voice was the last to follow, issuing quiet instructions and reminders to be careful.<\/p>\n
